Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
-Colossians 3:1-4

Cassandra McRorie Thompson embodied what it means to live a life hidden in Christ. A devoted wife, a mother of three amazing women (two of whom served on CCC summer staff), and a leader in her community, Cassandra showed genuine compassion for those around her. She was a pillar of her church, Central UMC in Charlotte, and helped lead the youth group to attend CCC from 1992 to 2000. Her spirit was humble yet magnetic; one could not help but feel completely at ease in her presence. She was an excellent listener and quick to offer a kind and wise word without expecting anything in return. Cassandra indeed set her mind and heart on things above. She was and continues to be an example for CCC campers and staff who strive to live by Jesus’ words, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).

Cassandra sadly passed away in 2005 after a three-year battle with colon cancer. Though her loss is still deeply felt throughout the CCC family, we celebrate her amazing life, both on earth and now in the presence of her Heavenly Father.

Carolina Cross Connection’s inaugural golf tournament was held in 2006. In its early planning stages, the Board of Directors and Administration unanimously voted that this charity event be dedicated as a memorial, and the Cassanda M. Thompson Golf Tournament was born. That fall, players and sponsors descended on Pine Lake Country Club, where Cassandra and her husband Dale had been members, for a day of fun and supporting meaningful mission work. This annual event continues to grow.

Carolina Cross Connection is honored to continue hosting our tournament in memory of Cassandra. We hope that her family, her friends, and tournament participants will likewise be blessed by this day. The Lord impacted many through Cassandra’s life here. May this event and its proceeds continue her legacy of love and Christian service.
